I love my new "Search Box" at the top of the Pages at my CafePress store.

I typed in "bass clef" and pulled up loads of bass clef graphics (okay, a few treble clef graphics slipped in as well, somehow... I'll look to cleaning that up.). There's also "Browse Products" features to help further narrow a search.

This new "Search Box" feature is very helpful and makes using my big store so much easier for all of us.

And say "Good-bye" to my "For Women Old Enough to Know Better", a.k.a. grannygear, store, which will be closed by August.

However, the "For Women Old Enough..." store is still open as I speak, and with a Junior Jersey Blow-Out Clearance Farewell and Closing Sale, at that. I have marked my Junior Jersey prices way down throughout the store. Add my mark-down to CafePress's Junior Jersey mark-down starting next Monday, and you've got lots of savings. Back to "For Women Old Enough..." store... This CafePress Premium Store originated when CafePress offered me a free six-months deal for me to upgrade my Basic Store (a free store, but with limited options) to a Premium Store. I took up CafePress's offer, even though I was already busy with my first and original CafePress Premium Store, Music Stuff & More.

"For Women Old Enough..." store did well those first six free months, so I kept it. It has always more than paid its way, still does, but I like the idea of consolidation now - it's easier, more convenient, simpler, for me and, I believe, for you customers. Oh, and there'll be one less store to make payments on...

You will now find your favorite graphics and merchandise from "For Women Old Enough..." store @ my Music Stuff & More store. (As you may have noticed, many of these graphics and merch have been there already.) Look in the "& More" area for your favorite non-musical graphics. I'm in the process of "revealing" them soon, after I get them all tidy and ready-for-primetime.

So, "For Women Old Enough..." is open now as I write, with great deals on Junior Jerseys, even now, more so starting next Monday.

Related, I haven't figured out yet what to do with the "For Women Old Enough...", a.k.a. Groovy Ladies, Blog. It will remain open and running until I can figure out what to do with it, a decisiion which will be made sometime before long...

In other CafePress store news, I've opted-into CafePress' offer to add Men's White T-Shirts along with my Value T-Shirts. CafePress plans to discontinue showing the Value T-Shirts in their Marketplace. I was asked if I wanted to handle the change in my stores, or if I wanted to accept CafePress' offer to handle the change. I was good for the offer. After all, I can check over the change later, and tweak it if I dislike enough what CafePress has done to my shirts. Odds are they won't mess up too much, as this is likely even more about their making money than it is for me. I will check, though.

I was also offered the option of either replacing my Value T-Shirts with the Men's White Basic T-Shirts or of adding to my already existing Value T-Shirts.

I opted for the adding, as I've sold many Value T-Shirts over the years, and I would like to retain them in my stores as a lower price option for my customers. In fact, I am pleased with the Value T-Shirt I own. It is a good T-shirt - and at a lower price, frankly.

My Internet Infrastructure Renovations & Related...

What I've been referring to, lo these many months, on my website, these blogs, my CafePress monthly newsletter, and elsewhere.

Remember my irritations at Microsoft and its goofiness with its FrontPage? My irritations that Google chose to upgrade its blogs (Blogger) at the same time? That CafePress changed its affiliation program at the same time? That I am renovating and upgrading almost everything? These blogs, my website... And always my stores, of course. (Most of it is like housework - unending, never really completed once and for all).

Okay, an update. As you can readily see, the blogs are slowly being finished. Not there yet, but well under way.

I've recently joined Commission Junction - which already has many of my goods I'm happy to say (go there and do a search on "chm") - so I can once again affiliate with other CafePress stores, as well as other CJ affiliates.

I still have the website to finish - after my Blogger blogs are up to standard. (The MySpace and Yahoo renovations will come later.) Gotta do the "digg" thing, update my "technocrati", do a "Skidoo"? etc., etc. Then there's all that, pardon my French, freaking Google stuff. They're dinging me for AdWords, there's the AdSense thing, The GOOG's analyzing my traffic, etc. - and, well, I've been neglecting it. Happily I make money anyway. : ) (There's that overhead thing, though, with the Yahoo and Google charges...hmmm.) Well, as you can see, I've done lots of my "CHM Internet Infrastructure Renovation" work, and I have way lots more to do. Target date for completion, or at least near-completion, is by 3Q, certainly by 4Q, and well before the holiday rush. I love being self-employed. But it is a lot of work being a one-woman business - and I do it all (and it shows? ; )

Renovations & Improvements

After struggling too much with Microsoft FrontPage 2003 (the latest FrontPage, which will not work with the latest Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 - go figure), I finally broke down and bought Adobe/Macromedia Dreamweaver 8.

Now, to learn the darn thing and to renovate my website.

In the meantime, my website is still and will be up and running, and at the same place as always: carolynhmayer.com

I do still keep adding the "Bad Music Joke of the Week", and I've added some new items of interest and/or amusement to the wazzup.htm Page and the "News & Views" Page. It's hard right now for me to do very much with the website - see the first paragraph up above. (Blasted Microsoft.)

Also, I'll be renovating my blogs - yes, this one, too. Google expects me to upgrade my Blogger already. I will do. Maybe next week.

In the meantime, my CafePress stores (and my Spreadshirt store) are doing great, being fully in business, and still having a free shipping promotion for Valentine's Day:

New Web Software...?

Folks, quite frankly, I've been thinking about and researching new Web software. You've already heard me comment and complain about my difficulties with Microsoft FrontPage seeming rather archaic with the latest online technologies, ie., interfacing with YouTube and other video sources, interfacing with blogs, RSS, etc.

I've also mentioned repeatedly that I'm no Web Designer - and don't really aspire to be one. I just want to get online okay, have my website, do my business, have my fun, and concentrate my graphic design efforts elsewhere (as in my current income-producing efforts, such as my stores).

I'm looking at Microsoft; I'm looking at Adobe...

I'm not coming up with a good answer yet.

I'm also finding out that I am not alone among FrontPage 2003 (the latest version!) users who want something more up to date, but are stumped.

It's back to the old FrontPage drawing board, for now, for this site. I'll clean out, repair, trim down, improve... After the holiday rush, that is, my plate's too full right down with Christmas.

Start over with a new website? Not only do I not want to - but, most important of all, I have really good Google Page Ranking with this site in its present form. Do I wish to risk losing that? No way! My income even depends on it - it's not an ego thing (yeah, right - with this website?).

Please be patient. : ) I will get my website act back together, one way or the other.

Cool, though. Just today CafePress surprised us shopkeepers with a load of new merchandise. We had not an inkling it was coming. It was added overnight.

So, needless to say, I have a whole lot more adding to do, but much of it is available in my CafePress stores right now. Of course, there will be much more to come as I can get it added.

Note that some of these items are already in the stores, with the new color choices now available. An example of this are the added colors for the Men's Dark T-Shirts: Navy and Khaki Green. These Dark T-Shirts are present now throughout my stores - you can simply check out these new colors right away.

The new color choices are pink or blue for the little ones, as well as the original white. For the adult sweatshirts - the plain and the hooded - the new choice will be white or the original gray.

Soon to come - dark red (called "cardinal") as an alternative color for black T-shirts. Fun for Christmas and will look great with some - many - of my graphics, IMHO. CafePress will start labeling these T-shirts "dark T-shirts."

All of these new color choices are already available on these products in all of my stores. When CafePress rolls out the new dark red soon that color will be immediately available as well.

As for "General Update", I've been doing a lot of combing through Music Stuff & More adding products, improving navigation and lay-out, adding text. Generally improving the place, starting with the "Music Merchandise." You may notice my recent work in the "Keyboards/Pianos" area, the "Music Symbols" area (Check out how many more products are in the Eighth Notes and B Wear/Ware areas!), and elsewhere. This "renovating" - or whatever you want to call it - will be ongoing. I'm starting in the Music Merchandise area and will be combing my way through the rest of Music Stuff & More and For Women Old Enough to Know Better, as well as my Basic stores. I'm going to be doing a small amount of tweaking on some graphics, too, such as graphics which, IMO, would be better bigger or higher...

I want to put more time into the Spreadshirt store soon as well. And the website, too.

Even though all that is a ton of work, I would go crazy if I did too much of it of that, frankly, grunt work, so look for some new graphics soon. It's been too long since I came out with a new graphic - I'm thinking music (of course!), politics (California will be electing a governor in November, for one thing), and more California/Orange County (there's not nearly enough of that!).

What's this about the Albino Code Store? I do like to support worthy causes, which includes here the issue of albinism. Bummer that "Da Vinci Code"'s Silas the creepy monk is an albino. What's that all about? I have albino acquaintances - I cringed when I read that the murderous Silas was made out to be an albino. Why? This does make life harder for those with albinism - they already have enough problems, with vision and skin problems, and "being different."

Just back from the eComXpo. Well, it's not a just back really since I never left this chair - eComXpo is an online expo - business convention - for Internet publishers, merchants, and affiliates, and the like. I joined LinkShare, starting out with "1-800-Flowers" for the more womanly side of my Internet "empire."

In other affiliate-type news, I've added new CafePress affiliate merchandise to the For Women Old Enough to Know Better store, some fun stuff (featuring animals, as well as food, right now. There will be additions in other categories as time goes by) in, surprise, the new "FUN" section. The Sudoku goods have also been moved, appropriately, into the new "FUN" section. There's also a new Autism Awareness section in this store. Look for Earth Day merch soon - Earth Day being April 22.

Now, off to FrontPage to get that stuck "March" fixed on the top border (fingers crossed)...

Did some repair work on the new Groovy Ladies Page. Tables mess, MS FrontPage (I have a love/hate relationship with it.), grumble, grumble... Remnants of the upheaval I commenced when I added the Page in the first place. Again, my apologies.

It was one of those odd things that you don't notice while you're putting a Web Page together, only later after the Page has been already embarrassing you out on the Web.

I've been starting an Autism Awareness section in For Women Old Enough...store. Note the spiffy new graphic I've started out with. April is Autism Awareness Month. I'm also starting to become aware that there is some controversy and strong feelings regarding the attitude to take toward the subject. To celebrate it? or to cure it? The jury's still out for me until I learn much more, but my guess now is that the truth is somewhere in the middle. I plan at least one Earth Day graphic for April 22 - it's still on the drawing board.

Things have been a little rocky on the website of late, but that's now fixed. Microsoft's FrontPage doesn't take well to having its "Shared Borders" messed with, which is what happened when I added the Groovy Ladies Page. I won't go further into the technical details, but, suffice it to say, rockiness should be gone now and the website stable. My apologies.

My computer's up and running again, with its fancy new C: drive with its twin external drive for back-up purposes.

Thanks to my brilliant son Mike (his 21st birthday today, BTW) not only did I not lose any data, but nothing needed installing either, since the image of my old C: drive was "merely" plopped down upon my new one. I was ready to get back to work immediately yesterday, and did so.

Still waiting on my hard drive, and therefore my FrontPage software, my graphic software...

But, I just learned the new hard drive is in Ontario, not so far away... Maybe tomorrow!

Just added a link to the Wazzup Page - should have been on the "News & Views" Page, but Yahoo wouldn't grant me access to edit my own bleeping Web Page, for some strange reason. So I added the brand-new State of the Union parody link to Wazzup. Look for the little yellow "NEW", as usual. Wazzup Page

I will do more website updating before the week is out. Jeez, this site has ugly code - part me, part FrontPage. The code is hard to read; therefore, hard to update by hand.

After only getting a couple hours of sleep, nothing like adding a C:/ drive failure to make one's day. But, here I am, anyway! New drive is on the way with a back-up twin. Nothing important was lost - which is the best news. The downside is spending $$, plus the time lag at getting fully up and running again. After I'm done here, I'll check to see if I can use FrontPage today or not to update my website. If not, it's "going in the back room" at my Web host to do a little updating there, using my raw HTML "skills." (Fun... not.) But, anyway, perhaps, too much information. This was not what I meant by news, really - back to business...

Figured I might as well and should, since the site has so many music pages, and is so related to a Music Stuff & More store.

Adding a few tasteful Google AdSense and AdSearch thingies around the website. I will continue with the sparse and subtle in regard to this. I so hate a website filled with too many of those things, don't we all? Pollution.

Maybe in my lifetime I'll get that $50 Google check. ; )

Busy with clients, but I need to sort out just what I'm doing right now for whom and when. My mind spins.

News flash: another E-Mail from Rita, she says hold off for now on the project. Well, gee, I can certainly understand why. She has no electricity yet and was E-Mailing me from a library. (I'll have to reply and remind her that she can conduct her CafePress business from any computer. She might as well keep her money coming in, right?)

Back from inserted news flash:

First, there was Rita in New Orleans, who was lost, but now is found; then, a client's client from the Gulf Coast somewhere evacuated to Huntsville, then there's a lady in NC waiting on me. NC, thank God, nothing happening there. Okay, I'll be sorting out all this.

Right now I'm working on graphics to contribute to CafePress' charity store for Katrina which is likely to open this week. All proceeds will go to Katrina charity.

The stores and CafePress are, frankly, way too busy. There have been many behind the scenes changes and improvements at CafePress which we storeowners have been busy with, but which may not be so noticeable to customers. The new affiliation program, for only one thing. This is something I need to figure out, before I even start thinking about implementing (okay, okay, I've got some affiliate links on my website, but, I just barely know what I'm doing with that, to be too honest.) There's a lot of new CafePress merchandise, which I've been telling you about as it's been coming along. All in all, stores-wise, do you have any idea how many graphics and how many products there are or could be in my CafePress group of stores? It is mind-boggling. We're talking figures like hundreds (graphics) and thousands (products).

On the upside, sales are good. : )

Don't forget to go to my website and click on those donation links for Katrina survivors. All are trustworthy links or they wouldn't be on my site, such as the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, etc.

Rita, the New Orleans client, lives!

Good news, the NO client I mentioned in my last post is alive and apparently well. Well enough to write me E-Mail and to be out rescuing cats, which sounds pretty well to me.

As is true with most of us Americans to some degree or another, I have been overwhelmed with Katrina. The fact of the disaster in itself, but, personally with the fact that a client I had been very much in the thick of working with E-mailed me Saturday night saying she was heading up with a mattress to an upstairs closet so she'd be safe from Katrina. I have no idea what's happened to her since. She's from New Orleans. Rita Bridges is her name; the store I've been helping her with is http://www.cafepress.com/mostly_cats. You can tell she just started building this store, in fact I still have her graphics left to finish on my machine. I sent an E-Mail to the artist who did the artwork for Rita's store, thinking she might know something about Rita. Afterwards I realized that god only knows what has happened to artist Mel, her also being in the New Orleans area.

This whole thing is troubling. I know I'm very much not alone in that feeling this week.

Furthermore, since I didn't see any point in continuing with Rita's project just now, I thought it would be good to work on my "next" client's project (a client of a client, actually). Then, I find out that this woman desiring the artwork lives on the Gulf Coast and had evacuated to Huntsville. I have still another client in line. She's in North Carolina. Good.

Well, there's still the CafePress stores. Which have new merchandise. You already know about the new kids' clothes, right? This latest batch of new goodies include caps, mini-buttons, rectangle magnets, wood-framed tiles... There's been a lot of new merchandise coming in lately. Watch for it to arrive in my stores. Watch also for the opening of the CafePress Hurricane Katrina Benefit Store (working title - the store is nameless, as I write) - I plan to contribute at least one graphic to the cause.

Lastly, but most importantly, look for the Hurricane Katrina links on the tops of my Home Page and News & Views Page. Donate to the Red Cross - you can't miss these Katrina links!

Wazzup is not quite so amusing this week, as I wasn't feeling very amused. The new BMJOTW is there, however, as it always is.

(I'm aware, I'm aware! I'd like to forget! Anyway, go get your mammograms and other exams, ladies! And do it before October when you'll find it too darn busy, because so many women are going because it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month...!)

I've been busy with client work, even to the extent that I, more or less, had to turn down a third client because I'm too occupied for weeks. Actually, I'm itching to spend more time on my store work, too. And, because of just that, it's very possible that I may put a halt to accepting new clients until at least November.

About the "Heat & Smog" title - we are having a heat wave here in SoCal, even at the coast. The worst of it is that the air is filth (We've been having sunsets to the west and to the east, lately, for this reason. The "regular" western sunset is being reflected off the filthy sky in the east - the "Inland Empire", Riverside County - hence the west and east sunsets.) I have asthma and am without AC, so I am getting the heck out of this southwest-facing office and apartment this afternoon and getting myself into AC, probably a bus ride down the coast.

In sum, my business and my updates for the day - and week - are just about done, as I get out of here.

There's new kids' clothes for school and fall (sweats and hoodies and jerseys, etc.).

There's light switch covers - kinda neat, but most of my present graphics don't fit on them well. I do have a few now in my stores using the few graphics which do fit. Look in the "Bargain Basement" of the "For Women Old Enough to Know Better" store.

There's, of all things, genuine postage stamps. The music ones will be especially nice, using the music graphics already available.

Another matter, CafePress itself has been a little rocky this week, with its servers slo-o-o-o-w, etc. I apologize on their behalf. There have been a lot of changes implemented - beyond the new merch mentioned above - and the rough edges need to be - and will be - smoothed out soon.

I've been busy lately, with clients, and store changes, etc. Look for more store and website updating ASAP. The blogs are pretty fresh - easy to do, which helps!

Of course I've added some new content to Wazzup this week. Be sure to check out the Animusic and the Gap Make a Change links. And there is always the BMJOTW. (Ha!
